Adsorptive Removal of As(III) by Cellulose-Sn(IV) Biocomposite

Cellulose-Sn(IV) (CSn) biocomposite was synthesized by cellulose and stannic chloride in ethanol medium using microwave irradiation for 2 min with 30 s of intermittent time intervals. The incorporation Sn(IV) into the matrix confirmed through FT-IR, XRD, TGA, SEM- EDS, BET. prepared composite CSn has been used adsorptive removal As(III) from water. Parameters, such as initial concentration, adsorbent dose, required adsorption process, were optimized batch-adsorption process. capacity found to be 16.64 mg/g at pH 7.0. Freundlich isotherm more suitable process based on regression coefficient values. Pseudo-second-order kinetic model understanding kinetics As(III). Weber–Morris non-zero intercept revealed that mechanism not limited diffusion only. spontaneous exothermic showed a decrease randomness. Chloride ions decreased percentage when concentration ten times according results obtained effect co-anions study. In this study, 5% (w/v) NaCl solution regeneration material, during up five adsorption–desorption cycles, there gradual 95% 78% only, which proves greener aspect CSn. breakthrough volume 1.25 L 10 mg/L column studies could applicable larger sample volumes also.
